Former Olympian Announces End of Career
Luana Alonso, a 20-year-old Paraguayan swimmer and influencer, has announced her retirement from the sport after a disappointing season. Alonso, who has over 452,000 followers on Instagram, made the announcement on her social media accounts on Tuesday.
Alonso, who competed in the women's 100-meter freestyle at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, had been hoping to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, she failed to meet the qualifying standards for the Paraguayan team.
In a tearful Instagram post, Alonso said that she was "heartbroken" to announce her retirement. She said that she had given everything she had to swimming, but that it was time for her to move on to a new chapter in her life.
