2024 Everest Season Update
Extended Season, Reduced Crowd
Season Extended to June 11th
The Everest spring season has been extended to June 11th, allowing teams more time to summit the world's highest peak. This is good news for climbers, as it will give them more time to acclimatize and reduce the risk of altitude sickness. Teams will have around 100 people on the mountain, substantially less than the hundreds that were present in March.
Arrival of IMG Climbers and Trekkers
The IMG climbers and trekkers will be arriving at Everest Base Camp on March 1st, 2024, before the start of the 2024 season. This team will be some of the first to arrive on the mountain and will help to set up the infrastructure for the rest of the season's climbers.
Radical New Rules to Protect Mount Everest
In an effort to protect Mount Everest, new rules are being implemented for the 2024 season. These rules include a ban on single-use plastics, a requirement for climbers to use oxygen-powered stoves, and a limit on the number of climbers who can summit each day. These rules are designed to help reduce the environmental impact of climbing on Mount Everest and to ensure the safety of climbers.
Climate Change Impacts Mount Everest
Climate change is having a significant impact on Mount Everest, causing the glaciers to melt and the ice to recede. This is making the mountain more dangerous to climb and is also leading to the loss of important habitat for wildlife. The 2024 season will be a critical test of the new rules and will provide important data on the impact of climate change on Mount Everest.
